BORACAY – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Malay is urging locals and tourists to download a 911-like mobile application used by emergency responders in the island.
Pure Force Citizens App, a Filipino-developed mobile system, was activated here to track and manage emergencies real time, according to Ma. Catherine Fulgencio, MDRRMO officer-in-charge.
Developed by Pure Force and Response Corp., the app enables users to send emergency reports or send a text message stating the help they need.
Reports sent through the app are directed to a command center manned by the MDRRMO, Fulgencio said. “Once we get their emergency [message], we send the appropriate response team.”
The application was patterned from the 911 system of the United States. It is now being used in other parts of the Philippines, including Cebu and several other cities in the National Capital Region.
Fulgencio said the app was introduced to the Boracay Action Group last year but not everyone knows about it yet.
Anyone may download the app on their smartphones, said Fulgencio. “To activate the app, users may register their mobile number to www.pureforce505.com.”
Those who do not have a smartphone may connect to the system by calling the national emergency hotline number (02) 86505.
Moreover, the Boracay Action Group had recently undergone a three-day briefing on the PureForce app.
Members of the MDRRMO, Boracay Fire Rescue Ambulance Volunteers, Boracay Tourist Assistance Center, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Army, and Philippine Red Cross – Boracay/Malay Chapter attended. (PNA)
