BACOLOD City – Beset by problems at home and at work, a 67-year-old female street cleaner attempted to kill herself.
The Barangay 16 resident tried to jump off the third floor of the Bacolod City Government Center around 10 a.m. on Thursday.
But an unidentified city government worker stopped her, said Executive Assistant Celestino Guara Jr.
Guara said the woman, a job-order casual city hall employee, told him she was unable to eat supper on Wednesday when she learned that her name was not included in an appointment order.
According to Guara, the woman was a victim of miscommunication.
The personnel assigned to their barangay failed to explain to her that their work will be on “rotation,” said the head of the city government Cluster on Peace and Order, Police Matters, Traffic, and Fire.
Asked by the press what prompted her to try to jump off a high floor, the woman refused to answer. All she said was her 11 grandchildren were living with her but she cannot afford to feed them./PN
