CAPIZ – The provincial government here has strengthened its push for environmental sustainability through a collaborative initiative with the local government of President Roxas.
On August 26, the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) partnered with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of President Roxas, under Mayor Receliste L. Escolin and MENRO designate Hansel Bereber, to launch the “A Seed for a Forest” activity.
The seed collection drive, held at the President Roxas Public Plaza, gathered more than 65 participants from various barangays. Community members also donated around 8,000 seeds, demonstrating strong collective support for environmental conservation.
The seeds included rambutan, avocado, santol, marang, langka, and cacao, with rambutan and santol being the most contributed. These seeds will be used for reforestation and agroforestry projects across Capiz, aimed at enhancing biodiversity, protecting watersheds, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
To complement the event, organizers also held a Community PanTREE activity, where 300 seedlings of fruit-bearing species such as langka, lanzones, rambutan, marang, lemon, and cabugao were distributed to 63 participants. The initiative encouraged backyard planting to promote food security and environmental care.
Beyond planting, the activity instilled greater awareness of environmental stewardship, highlighting how caring for nature ensures sustainable resources for future generations.
CaPENRO and MENRO also conducted information sessions on tree planting, seed conservation, and ecological protection, further empowering residents to actively participate in greening initiatives.
