ANTIQUE – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Antique, in partnership with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), conducted a Humanitarian Training Workshop cum Emergency Operational Readiness Advance Course Training of Trainers on Wednesday, September 3, at Campolly, Barangay Tuno, Tibiao.

The weeklong training was spearheaded by the provincial government and participated in by 15 facilitators from various provinces along with 30 representatives from different BSP councils in the Visayas, including Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Negros Island, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Council.

According to Antique PDRRMO officer Broderick Train, the program is designed to equip future trainers with essential knowledge and skills in rescue operations and humanitarian response, preparing them to face emergency situations effectively.

Train emphasized that the training aims to educate scout leaders on disaster preparedness and humanitarian action, particularly in strengthening their capacity for effective response. These newly trained facilitators are expected to pass on their learnings to fellow scouts in their respective councils.

He also expressed confidence that with the strong support of Gov. Paolo Javier, Antique will continue to build resilience against disasters such as floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marvin M. Nicer, BSP Regional Scout Director for the Visayas Cluster, extended his gratitude to Gov. Javier and the PDRRMO Antique for hosting the event.

“We are very thankful to Gov. Paolo Javier for letting us use the Binirayan Sports Complex as the venue of our activities and for the warm welcome of the Antiqueños. They are very hospitable,” Nicer said.

The training workshop marks another milestone in Antique’s commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and supporting youth involvement in humanitarian action across the Visayas region./PN
