A waste of time and money

“SPEAK out, you got to speak out against the madness, you got to speak your mind if you dare.”

When the video went viral, the first thing that came to mind was, so have the “usual suspects” already linked and blamed President Duterte for that policeman who shot his two neighbors?

There was indeed a frenzy among the “wokes” desperately clutching at straws looking for any link to blame President Duterte. Following their line of thinking, policeman-turned-murderer Jonel Nuezca’s string of cases happened between 2010-2016 during the watch of Noynoy Aquino as President and Local Government secretary Jessie Robredo and Mar Roxas, so why wasn’t he dismissed from the Philippine National Police? And by the way, he’s also from Tarlac just like the Aquinos. On that we can only conclude that it’s Noynoy Aquino’s fault.

Those so-called “wokes” don’t really care about that woman and her son shot by policeman-turned-murderer. They’re just desperately looking for another issue to use against Duterte. They were already salivating at the thought of two corpses to be used as props in their brand of necropolitics. Unfortunately for them, nobody’s buying it.

I have this nagging suspicion that Leni Robredo is so dense that she didn’t get the sarcasm, felt threatened, and responded seriously to it, or she just doesn’t have a sense of humor.

Teddy Casiño, Carlos Zarate and the rest of the so-called Makabayan Bloc should avoid at all cost going to SM malls as they are on a three-day Red Tag sale and according to them it is life-threatening.

Joma Sison typifies an oxymoron. He’s a communist enjoying life in a democratic country. Hhe should be in North Korea.

In “I Am Iloilo City”, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) says gatherings of more than 10 persons are not allowed.

Will somebody please tell that to Mayor Geronimo, “Mango Jam” and the rest of the Iloilo City councillors, including the vice mayor? They seem to be unaware there’s a pandemic going on. By the way facemask, face shield and social distancing are also de rigueur.

By the way, what caused that total blackout last week affecting “I Am Iloilo City” was the explosion of a 30-year-old 69KV terminal switch of the power cable from Panay Power Corp. which is supplying the 10 MVA city proper substations.

That antiquated and obsolete terminal switch of the power cable is a remnant of PECO’s “very efficient and modern” power infrastructure, a testament of an “Ilonggo” company in the service of the Ilonggos who never bothered to upgrade their facilities during their watch.

It was quickly sorted out. Within the day after four hours, give and take. Power was back within the affected substations – a far cry from the usual “efficiency and speed” of erstwhile power provider PECO. Considering their track record during their watch in maintenance and repairs, the City Proper and other affected substations would have most probably celebrated Christmas using candle lights instead of the usual Christmas lights.

But of course, we should not blame PECO as they are already irrelevant. They will just serve as a stark reminder of what was and should never happen again.

So what is a waste of time and money?

This may come as a surprise to most “wokes” and millennials, including the naïve, trendy, social-climbers but if you want to be fit and healthy for life, a membership in gyms is not the answer. it is just a waste of time and money.

Excerpts from an article by Andrew Merle which was published in Medium:

The healthiest people in the world don’t go to the gym

You don’t need to lift heavy weights or grind through high intensity interval workouts to live a long and healthy life.

A recent study from the American Cancer Society revealed that walking for six hours per week resulted in a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and cancer than not being active at all. But the research also showed that walking even as little as two hours per week could reduce the risk of disease and helps you live longer.

Walking is also great medicine for your mind. A daily walk could reduce the risk of dementia by 40 percent, according to Anders Hansen, a physician and psychiatry specialist from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

The bottom line is that our bodies were designed to move. And that doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym. You don’t need to lift heavy weights or grind through high intensity interval workouts to live a long and healthy life.

Unless you want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, don’t waste your time and money going to the gym. Just put on comfortable cotton shorts and t-shirt, a pair of running shoes, and go walk./PN
