BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia asked the Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Island Region to take action on the alleged beating of a pupil at Rizal Elementary School.
Her teacher must not be allowed to get near the 9-year-old girl, the mayor said.
Teacher Rowelyn Bolinas allegedly ordered her pupils to beat the 9-year-old and their three other classmates before classes started on Monday because they were absent on Friday last week.
An aunt of the girl who was a resident of Barangay 35 complained, according to Romeo Baldevarona, head of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Negros Occidental.
The girl suffered from contusions and hematoma on her buttocks as a result of the alleged beating, the CHR said, citing a medical record.
Leonardia said he called DepEd regional director Gilbert Sadsad on Thursday about the matter.
Sadsad was still clueless about the incident but will check with Cynthia Demavivas, superintendent of the DepEd – Division of Bacolod City, said Leonardia.
The mayor said he learned from Demavivas she already reported the incident to the DepEd regional office.
For now the girl is excused from her classes with Bolinas, her adviser, to allow her contusions to heal, Principal Dennis Estaniel said. He added that the girl will report to a different section once she gets back to school./PN
