MANILA – Adamson University Lady Falcons moved closer to clinching the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference title. It posted a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11 Game 1 win over the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses at the San Juan Arena.
Trisha Geneses tallied double-double 21 points and 16 digs while rookies Ceasa Pinar and Lucille Almonte added 16 and 15, respectively, on Wednesday.
The Lady Falcons surged to a 1-0 edge in the best-of-three title series.
After splitting the first four sets, the Lady Falcons opened the fifth frame with 12-8 advantage on hits from Genesis.
The Golden Tigresses, however, showed some life by cutting the deficit to 10-12.
Almonte responded with back-to-back hits to push the Lady Falcons at match point before Ennajie Laure scored on an off speed to save a point for the Golden Tigresses.
Almonte sealed the win for Adamson with a crosscourt hit.
“’Yung mental toughness tsaka ‘yung puso nila handang lumaban,” said Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron. “Nakita ko doon nu’ng fifth set, konti na lang ‘yung interference ng coach, they’re the one who will decide kung mananalo sila o hindi.”
Ejiya Laure had 19 points on 16 attacks and three kill blocks while Ennajie and Imee Hernandez added 15 markers each as the Golden Tigresses.
Meanwhile, Ateneo Lady Eagles moved closer to taking the third place trophy with a 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11 win over Adamson University Falcons.
