Ceres, Kaya players to suit up for Azkals in FIFA qualifier

MANILA – Five players from Ceres-Negros FC and Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo have been called up for the Philippine Azkals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup joint qualification game against China.

Among those who will suit up for the Azkals from Ceres-Negroso – the reigning Philippines Football League champions were – Carlos de Murga, Mike Ott, Jose Elmer Porteria and Stephan Schrock.

Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo native Jovin Bedic, on the other hand, was the lone player from Kaya-Iloilo to be selected for the national men’s football team.

Also tapped by Azkals were Neil Etheridge, Michael Falkesgaard, Kevin Hansen, Amani Aguinaldo, Mikel Baas, Niko de Vera, Daisuke Sato, Alvaro Silva, Martin Steuble, Elias Suerti, and Luke Woodland.

Completing the national team roster were Yrick Gallantes, Angel Guirado, Kevin Ingreso, Iain Ramsay, John Patrick Strauss, Mark Hartmann, and Patrick Reichelt.

The Azkals will face the People’s Republic of China on Oct. 15 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

The national team split its first two matches in the qualifier—a loss to Syria (2-5) and win over Guam (4-1)./PN
