BACOLOD City – Brigadier General Dinoh Dolina, the newly assigned commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) of the Philippine Army, said two additional battalions will be deployed to Negros Island in a month’s time.
Dolina said this during his courtesy visit at the provincial capitol yesterday.
The additional battalions – which will be from Mindanao – will augment the three battalions already stationed in the island.
Negros Island continues to be one of the top priorities of the Army in terms of dismantling insurgents, Dolina stressed.
There is a “need” to clear out the presence of insurgents in the island to bring “lasting peace and development,” he added.
According to Dolina, there is a huge mass of rebels based in Negros provinces.
He said he is expects his soldiers to be determined in winning the fight against the rebels especially after the Army defeated local terrorists in the besieged Marawi City.
“If they call themselves the ‘people’s army,’ then we will make our troops the ‘soldiers of the people’,” Dolina said.
Dolina was previously the liaison officer of the Army to the House of Representatives before he was assigned as the commander of the 3ID, replacing General Jon Aying, who recently retired from service./PN
