Adulting

BY ANGELICA L. PFLEIDER

WHAT is “adulting”?

Is it buying a different brand of bead just because it’s five pesos less?

Is it when you get your first pay check and are finally able to spend your own money?

Is it when you prefer to have a quiet dinner at home than party all night?

Is it when you know how to cook your own meals? (The real ones with ingredients, not just processed food.)

For me, adulting is when you are able to face life’s challenges head-on without giving up or causing trouble to others.

Do you need money? Get a job or sell some things you don’t need anymore.

Are you worried you will be late to an appointment? Leave early and allot enough time for travel.

Do you find it hard to save? Try spending less on unnecessary things and go for more budget-friendly options.

Do you find your surroundings dirty? Try actually cleaning up after yourself.

Keep note of scheduled appointments and things you have to do either in good old-fashioned paper or your phone.

If you don’t know how something is done ask the authorities in charge for advice and remember it. (Taking down notes comes in handy here, too.)

Adulting is when you can solve your own problems without having anybody else do them for you.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “There are people who are paid to do things for us!”

Well, don’t think money is the only thing you owe them. These people deserve respect and understanding. Don’t think they will grovel at your feet just because you’re having a tantrum.

So again, adulting is solving your own problems, persevering when challenges come, and being kind to the people around you.

Remember, everybody gets stressed about being an adult, so the best way to get though it is to help each other. (angelica.panaynews@gmail.com/PN)
