IT’S HILARIOUS how in the midst of the crises in our country, the government plans the most ridiculous projects.

We have already gained infamy around the world as the most dangerous country so, of course, the solution to that is to scrap board and bar exams!

Natural disasters rock our towns, the COVID-19 vaccination is as slow as ever, and the police force, the “shepherds” of justice, are the ones gunning innocent civilians down. Not to mention our rising unemployment rate and dwindling economy.

The statement of Labor secretary Silvestre Bello III about not requiring exams is the epitome of stupidity for me. These exams exist for a reason in the first place.

Professions require a level of responsibility to have a license; that is why we need board exams to meet a certain standard.

Even with the presence of these exams you get incompetent people, how much more without them?

If their issue is the number of years of study and how difficult it is for a person to attain a license, why not focus on making the exams more affordable and accessible?

Why not work on the efficiency of handing out the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license?

How about increasing the salary and benefits of our nurses to make all their years of school worth it?

Then we have the choice of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to “standardize” the adobo recipe. That decision in itself isn’t necessarily a bad one, but the timing is extremely off.

We have farmers who are underpaid, and civilians who can barely have access to our delicious and healthy local ingredients because of import and export. Maybe secure our grassroots first before worrying about something as petty as a recipe?

It’s extremely depressing to see the horrible things happening one after another. It’s even more infuriating when you see your leaders not doing anything about it. Is there any hope we can give ourselves?

The elections are coming up and now is our chance to choose a “better” administration. But that was the same thing Filipinos hoped for back in 2016. Will it just be an endless cycle of incompetence and impunity?/PN
