Senator Christopher “Bong” Go dispatched his team to extend additional assistance to recovering fire victims from two barangays in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday, June 10, continuing his support for disaster-stricken communities and families recovering from fire incidents.
In a video message, Go reminded the beneficiaries of the importance of prioritizing safety and protecting lives during emergencies.
“Ang gamit ay nabibili, ang pera ay kikitain, subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nakakabili ng buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Importante ay buhay tayo kaya pangalagaan natin ang buhay na ibinigay sa atin ng Panginoon,” Senator Go emphasized.
The beneficiaries further received housing assistance through government programs to help rebuild their homes.
“Sa ilalim ng programang ito na ating isinulong, mabibigyan ang mga benepisyaryo ng tulong para pambili ng materyales tulad ng mga pako at yero na pampatayo muli ng kanilang mga nasirang bahay,” Go explained.
Furthermore, the assistance activity benefited seven families from Barangay 9 and one from Barangay Bata in the city held at the City Social Welfare and Development Office of Bacolod City. Go’s team distributed grocery packs, snacks, shirts, fans, and balls to help uplift the spirits of the affected families.
Go also highlighted Republic Act No. 11589, also known as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored.
The law strengthens fire prevention and response capabilities nationwide by modernizing equipment, increasing personnel, and enhancing training programs to ensure communities are better protected against fire-related incidents.
“Magtulungan lang po tayo. Sino ba namang magtutulungan kung hindi tayo, mga kapwa nating Pilipino. Nandito lang ako na handang magserbisyo sa inyo dahil ‘yan po ang aking bisyo, ang magserbisyo,” the senator concluded, reassuring the victims of his continued support and commitment to their recovery.
The senator continues to advocate for disaster preparedness, efficient response mechanisms, and long-term recovery solutions to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by calamities.
