ILOILO City – For the sake of transparency, all chickens for the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in this city will be weighed, announced City Agriculturist Romulo Pangantihon.
The other day, Councilor Plaridel Nava claimed there were irregularities in the chicken distribution program of the city government. For one, he said, the chickens were underweight and not 300 grams as stated in the city government’s contract with the supplier.
The chicken distribution started last month yet.
The chickens will be weighed individually upon delivery, said Pangantihon, “to make sure nga wala na sang questions.”
The chicken distribution program has a budget of P3.5 million covering a total of 17,500 heads of chicken.
Under the terms and reference, each chicken should weigh 300 grams on delivery at a cost of P198.50.
“Ang indi makalab-ot sa 300 grams outright i-reject namon,” said Pangantihon.
He did not say if his office weighed the chickens that were distributed in August and early this month.
Pangantihon said 2,625 heads of chicken have so far been distributed. Each beneficiary received five heads of chicken (four hens and one rooster).
The distribution would be gradual and may stretch for some 10 months. Pangantihon said the supplier could not produce all the contracted chickens in a single delivery, he explained.
“As to the sizes, it is admitted nga ang pagtubo sang manok wala nagapalarehas. May size disparity gid ‘na kay may ara nga shooters kag may ara medyo hina magtubo,” said Pangantihon.
The city agriculturist also confirmed that the supply was negotiated because the three biddings for the project all failed.
The project is part of the city government’s Integrated Food Production Program (livestock component) funded under the Bottom-up-Budgeting program of the National Anti-Poverty Commission./PN
