MANILA – The absence of Japeth Aguilar’s twin tower Gregory Slaughter could be the signal for him to double his work and unleash his dominance for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings in the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup.

Aguilar had a breakout performance in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup for his team, which led him straight to winning his first Finals Most Valuable Player trophy. He, however, refused to be carried away by his achievement heading into the new season.
The Gilas Pilipinas Center added that dominating the Philippine Cup will be easier said than done for Gineba since defending champion San Miguel Beermen is still a force to be reckoned with even sans its star June Mar Fajardo.

“For me, ang strength namin is playing as a team talaga,” Aguilar said. “We can’t count them out. Ang daming pwede mag-step up sa kanila.”

“I just got to be ready talaga,” he added. “Yung mindset ko, hindi talaga ako pwedeng mag-relax dahil alam ko na medyo malaki ang gagampanan kong role this coming all-Filipino. I know na hindi lang ako ‘yung mag-a-adjust, pati ‘yung buong team talaga.”

With the PBA league on break due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, Aguilar and his wife Cassy are busy lending a hand to the frontliners./ PN
