AIKO MELENDEZ and Onemig Bondoc are set to walk down the aisle as they revealed their engagement, about eight months after making their romance official.
Bondoc popped the question to Melendez while they were visiting the tomb of the actress’ late father, Jimi Melendez, as seen in the actor’s vlog on his YouTube channel on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
During their visit, Melendez turned emotional as she recalled her memories with her dad. She also said that Bondoc was the first man she brought to the grave of her father.
In a separate post on her Instagram page, Melendez looked back on her relationship with Bondoc and reflected on how they found their way back to each other after 29 long years.
“Today, I am engaged to the man who has somehow been part of my story for almost three decades,” she said.
“Our love story was never a straight line. We met, we loved, and then life happened. We went our separate ways and lived the lives we were meant to live. We grew, we learned, we made choices, we faced our own battles, and we became different versions of ourselves. And maybe that was exactly how our story was supposed to unfold,” she continued.
Melendez said she is marrying Bondoc “for the right reasons,” underscoring their readiness and certainty about their relationship.
“Maybe fate separated us because we still had growing to do. Maybe destiny allowed us to live separate lives so that when our paths crossed again, we would finally recognize the kind of love we were ready for,” she wrote.
“[Twenty-nine] years later… I said YES. And this time, we choose each other not because we need to, but simply because we want to spend the rest of our lives together,” she concluded.
