Aiza Seguerra (3rd from left) has resigned as chairman of the National Youth Commission.

MANILA – Aiza Seguerra has resigned as National Youth Commission chairman.

“The Office of Executive Secretary has received the resignation of Chairperson Aiza Seguerra,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said yesterday.

Nakarating na sa opisina ng Presidente ang kanyang resignation,” the Malacañang official confirmed.

Asked why Seguerra resigned, Roque said: “Hindi ko pa (siya) nakakausap (I have not spoken with him yet).”

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed the former child star as youth commission chairman in August 2016.

Seguerra has campaigned against the abolition of the Sanggunian Kabataan.

“To abolish it is tantamount to depriving the youth of their voice in local governance,” he had said.

In 2017 Seguerra also launched an information dissemination campaign on HIV.

On Facebook Seguerra said he tendered his resignation on March 5.

“I coordinated with his (Duterte) office because I wanted to personally tell him my reason,” Seguerra said in a post yesterday.

“Knowing how social media can exaggerate or twist the truth, I wanted to make sure that he’s going to hear it from me,” he added.

Seguerra said the President was “very understanding” and “supportive” of his decision./PN
