KALIBO, Aklan – Building constructions in Aklan decline almost 10 percent in 2017, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.
A total of 709 construction projects based on approved building permits were reported last year, 76 projects lower compared to 2016’s 785.
All types of constructions declined last year. Additions have the biggest drop (25 percent) from 12 in 2016 to 9 in 2017.
Alterations/Repairs followed with a 21.3-percent decline, from 61 in 2016 to 48 in 2017.
Construction of nonresidential infrastructures dropped 20.9 percent, from 254 in 2016 to 201 in 2017, while that of residential infrastructures, 1.5 percent, from 458 in 2016 to 451 in 2017.
The total value of construction in 2017 reached P3.5 billion, 43 percent lower compared to P6.2 billion in 2016.
The value of construction for non-residential buildings was estimated at P2.5 billion, which accounted for about 70 percent of the total value.
Residential building construction, meanwhile, contributed P9.8 million, or 28 percent, to the total value.
Given the total floor area of 116,722 square meters, the average cost of residential building construction in 2017 amounted to P8,446 per square meter.
For nonresidential building constructions, the average cost is P12,442 per square meter with a total area of 200,391 square meters.
Kalibo recorded the highest number of construction last year with 215, or 30 percent of the total approved permits.
Numancia followed with 181 and Malay with 135, PSA said.
According to Provincial Statistics Officer Antonet Catubuan, statistics generated from approved building permits are the bases of estimating the level of construction activity in national income accounts and serves as indicators on the level of investments in country.
These data were based on the copies of approved building and demolition permits collected from the offices of Local Building Officials in every municipality in Aklan. (With PSA Aklan/PN)
