KALIBO, Aklan – The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced it will close the irrigation system in Aklan for six months beginning this October.
Manuel Olanday, regional technical director of DA, said the planned closure will pave the way for the rehabilitation of the system.
“The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is now coordinating with the farmers in the province,” Olanday added.
The NIA has already re-chanelled its main gate in Barangay Sigcay, Banga, Aklan.
Olanday said farmers need not to worry since it is still the rainy season from “the month of October onwards.”
“In case of shortage of rice in the province, the provinces of Antique, Iloilo and Capiz can still supply the needs of the residents,” he also said./PN
