KALIBO, Aklan – Aklanon children with autism are learning art from a native who has successfully taught adults with similar condition.
Anna India Legaspi has been offering free art lessons to 10 poor autistic children for three weeks already.
Her desire to teach poor children with autism developed while she was teaching autistic adults in Metro Manila starting in 2015.
“In Metro Manila, I am one of the coaches helping autistic adults engage in art,” said Legaspi.
According to the Aklanon, she finds teaching poor, young children with autism in the province “more challenging.”
Her lessons are being held every Saturday afternoon at Lolo Maning’s Farm in this capital town.
The children use art supplies provided by the Fashion Arts Autism Benefit.
After a year, the 10 children from Kalibo, Numancia and Balete are expected to create paintings on piña cloth as canvass./PN
