Aklan’s Miraflores to run vs 3 other guv bets

KALIBO, Aklan – Three people will run against reelectionist Gov. Florencio Miraflores in Aklan.

Miraflores, who seeks another gubernatorial term under the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, will be opposed by Kalibo mayor William Lachica of the Nationalist People’s Coalition and two independent candidates – businessman Pablo Beltran and Engineer Felicisim Tanumtanum Jr.

Miraflores is now on his second term as Aklan governor.

The filing of certificates of candidacy ended on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the applications of some 1,371 new voters in Malay, Aklan will be reviewed in relation to a complaint from a resident in Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island.

The Commission on Elections municipal office said the new voters will be made to answer questions on Oct. 25 to ensure their integrity.

“Each of the 1,371 voters will be asked to explain why they have decided to vote in Malay,” said Comelec-Malay spokesman Atty. Rommel Benliro. (With a report from Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
