MANILA – Renaldo Balkman came up with clutch conversions to lead San Miguel Beer-Alab Pilipinas to an 80-73 win over CLS Knights of Indonesia in the ASEAN Basketball League at the GOR CLS Kertajaya in Surabaya, Indonesia.

The Puerto Rican import finished with 36 points – 13 in the final quarter – to go along with 10 rebounds and three blocks for Alab (10-4) to notch its seventh straight victory on Sunday night.

Bobby Ray Parks Jr. had another solid game to finish with 17 markers while American Justin Brownlee flirted with a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists.

Trailing 59-60 heading into the fourth period, Balkman spearheaded Alab’s 8-0 start in the quarter to take a 67-60 lead, but the Indonesians rallied to come to within 70-71.

Alab banked on Balkman once again as he led a 9-3 counterattack capped by a thunderous slam to raise the lead to 80-73 with 37 seconds left.

“We’ve played eight or nine games in the last four weeks. I know our guys are feeling it physically and mentally,” said Alab head coach Jimmy Alapag. “We just have to find ways. I’m doing my best along with the [other] coaches to help these guys recover.”

Brian Williams finished with double-double 24 points and 17 rebounds, Shane Edwards added 17 markers, while veteran playmaker Mario Wuysang had 13 points for Knights (3-10)./PN
