MANILA – Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team secured its third consecutive bronze medal in the 2025 SEA V.League after a convincing 25-20, 25-20, 16-25, 25-13 victory over Indonesia on Sunday in Thailand.

Bouncing back from back-to-back losses to Thailand and Vietnam, Alas Pilipinas delivered a strong finishing performance to close out the first leg of the tournament on a high note.

After dropping the third set and missing out on a sweep, Alas Pilipinas opened the fourth frame with a fiery 18-6 scoring run to take full control and eventually seal the win.

The dominant closeout capped the Jorge Edson Souza de Brito-mentored squad’s third straight podium finish in the regional competition.

Earlier in the match, Alas Pilipinas recovered from a five-point deficit in the opening frame, rallying behind the net defense of Dell Palomata, Angel Canino, Alyssa Solomon, and Fifi Sharma to tie the score at 13-all. Canino and Sharma then led a crucial 9-5 finishing push to claim the set.

The momentum carried into the second set, where the national women’s volleyball team surged ahead early and maintained a comfortable lead throughout to take a 2-0 advantage.

Indonesia capitalized on Philippine’s errors in the third, forcing a fourth set after the Filipinas committed eight unforced mistakes. But Alas regrouped quickly and responded with a dominant display to close out the match.

The Philippines will now look to build on the win as they aim to break through the bronze-medal barrier in the tournament’s second leg, scheduled from August 8 to 10 in Vietnam./PN
