ILOILO City – In a show of sustained commitment to public safety, the Iloilo City Government has poured nearly P600 million into police support since 2019 — and it is not stopping there.
Mayor Raisa Treñas on Monday unveiled a fresh wave of logistical upgrades and initiatives aimed at equipping the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) and the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) with the tools needed to combat crime, enhance mobility, and strengthen intelligence work. These include more motorcycles, fuel support, and drone technology for surveillance and crowd control.
“This investment speaks of one thing — trust in your mandate and respect for your mission,” Treñas said during the flag raising and awarding ceremony at the PRO-6 Grandstand in Camp Gen. Martin Teofilo B. Delgado, where she served as Guest of Honor and Speaker.
The city’s comprehensive assistance package since 2019 spans the purchase of patrol cars, motorcycles, firearms, office equipment, fuel, and training expenses — a support initiative first established under former Mayor Jerry Treñas and carried forward by the current administration.
“These are not just investments in equipment, but in the safety and well-being of our citizens,” Treñas emphasized.
Among the new initiatives she announced are:
* provision of fuel fleet cards to all city police stations to reduce fuel burden;
* acquisition of more motorcycles by 2026 to improve response times;
* procurement of drones to boost surveillance and disaster response;
* participation in the Department of Interior and Local Government’s “Buy 1, Give 1” program, which will double the number of city patrol vehicles from 12 to 24.
Beyond material support, Mayor Treñas lauded the operational success of the ICPO, especially in its anti-drug campaign. From January to July this year, the city police conducted over 400 anti-drug operations, resulting in 600 arrests and the confiscation of nearly 16 kilos of shabu valued at P106 million.
“We will never allow Iloilo City to be shrouded by illegal drugs again. Under my watch, we are determined to keep our city drug-free and secure,” she said.
Treñas also hailed the ICPO for being named the Best Performing City Police Office in the Philippines under the Highly Urbanized Cities (HUC) category during the 124th PNP Police Service Anniversary, outperforming Zamboanga and Pasig.
She likewise celebrated the national award nominations of three ICPO personnel: Police Colonel Kim Legada (Best Senior Police Commissioned Officer for Operations), Police Captain Ryan Christ C. Inot (Best Junior Police Commissioned Officer for Operations), and Police Master Sergeant Argie O. Catayban (Best Junior Police Non-Commissioned Officer for Operations).
“These achievements validate what we already know: Iloilo City is in good hands because of your tireless work and service,” the mayor said.
Mayor Treñas vowed sustained partnership with PRO-6 and the ICPO:
