Alimodian launches vaccine info drive

ILOILO – The municipal government of Alimodian launched a massive information campaign on vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

 “Through vaccine education, mahangpan gid naton ang importansya sang bakuna,” said Mayor Geefre “Kalay” Alonsabe in an interview with Panay News

On Monday, March 8, the town kicked off the drive in coordination with the town’s 51 punong barangays, Municipal Health Office and barangay health workers.

The village chiefs were also authorized to set the schedule of their campaigns.  

Alonsabe assured his constituents there was nothing to fear because “nag-agi sa maid-id nga proseso ang COVID-19 vaccines.”

The mayor said they have yet to conduct a survey among healthcare workers, other frontliners, senior citizens, indigents, and persons with co-morbidities as to who are willing to be vaccinated.

The local government unit (LGU) targets to cover all barangays this week.

The mayor said P4.8 million was allotted for the procurement of vaccines. 

Alonsabe, however, clarified he would wait for the vaccines the national and provincial government will allocate to Alimodian before spending the amount.

The mayor also announced his willingness to be publicly vaccinated to boost the trust of his constituents on COVID-19 vaccines. 

Alonsabe is also enjoining all Alimodiananons to support the vaccination program of the government. 

As of this writing, Alimodian had 75 total COVID-19 cases – one was active, 72 recovered and three deaths./PN
