All-Filipino PCAP: Iloilo, Negros sweep foes

MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights and Negros Kingsmen swept their two matches in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) All-Filipino Conference on Wednesday night.

Kisela Knights solidified its hold on the top spot in the Southern Division with 10-1 slate behind victories over Zamboanga (13.5-7.5) and Tacloban (17.5-3.5).

Iloilo edged Zamboanga in blitz game, 5.5-1.5, behind wins by Cesar Mariano (Board 1), Karl Ochoa (Board 2) Cherry Mejia (Board 3), Rogelio Antonio Jr. (Board 4), and Horizon Villanueva (Board 5), and a draw by Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 7).

Kisela Knights also defeated Zamboanga in rapid game, 8-6, courtesy of two-pointers by Ochoa, Mejia and Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 6), and draws by Mariano and Antonio.

The Kisela Knights was also a winner in blitz against Tacloban, 5.5-1.5, courtesy of wins by Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, Parondo and Porras and a deadlock from Mariano.

Iloilo also showed the same dominance in the rapid game, 12-2, with victories by Ochoa, Mejia, Antonio, John Michael Silvederio (Board 5), Porras and Parondo.

The Kingsmen, meanwhile, tightened its hold on third place in Southern Division with 8-3 slate with dominant victories against Tacloban (19-2) and Palawan (15-6).

Against Tacloban, the Kingsmen got 6-1 win in blitz behind victories by David Elorta (Board 1), Jose Turquiza (Board 2), Adrian Pacis (Board 4), Ellan Asuela (Board 5), Edsel Montoya (Board 6) and Ted Montoyo (Board 7).

In the rapid game, the Kingsmen also walloped Tacloban, 13-1, with full two points from Elorta, Turquiza, Natori Diaz (Board 3), Asuela, Montoya and Montoyo and a split from Pacis.

Negros shuffled its lineup against Palawan but still won in blitz, 5-2, behind triumphs from Elorta (Board 1), Asuela (Board 2), Alfredo Dumalag (Board 4), Alvin Alcala (Board 5) and Montoyo (Board 7).

The Kingsmen also defeated Palawan in rapid event, 10-4, on two points each by Elorta, Asuela, Angelyn Binan (Board 3), Dumalag and Rolzon Roullo (Board 6)./PN
