Almirante girds for 1st volley in 2 years

MANILA – Ilongga volleybelle Keiara Almirante of Kings Montessori School Lady Vikings looks forward to returning to action via the VolleyPrep Volleyball Club Championship 2021 next month in Naga City.

According to the Mandurriao, Iloilo City native, she is more than excited to finally play competitive volleyball for the first time in two years. Tournaments were halted by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Ready gid kami for the tournament. But of course there are still certain improvements we have to work on,” the 5-foot-8 middle blocker said in an interview with Gametime: A Sports Podcast.

“Excited kami maghampang after almost two years but indi enough ang amon practice kag kulang gid ang exposure sang team due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.

Almirante also relayed that she did not stop with her conditioning to remain in tiptop shape once the volleyball tournaments are allowed to resume.

“We were doing online workouts. But, of course, it is not enough so we will just make use of our limited time to prepare for this tournament,” she said.

Almirante is one of the key players for the Lady Vikings in the upcoming U-20 volleyball tournament that will be held from Dec. 4 to 7 at the Naga College Foundation Volleyball Center.

Prior to becoming part of the Lady Vikings three years ago, Almirante was a former standout of Ateneo de Iloilo before moving to First City Providential College in Bulacan and to Kings Montessori.

Aside from Kings Montessori, other competing teams were NCF Tigers of Naga City, Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts, California Precision Sports, Parañaque Lady Green Berets, ABCAMP, Tacloban City Red Stallions and Fourth District Nueva Ecija.

The VolleyPrep Volleyball Club Championship 2021 is a Naga City local government unit-sanctioned volleyball tournament that will be held in bubble-format./PN
