MANILA – The Malacañang on Sunday urged the public to stay alert and report incidents of suspicious behavior or activity to the appropriate authorities.
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella made the statement following the twin explosion in Quiapo, Manila on Saturday night that killed two people and injured six others, including two police officers.
“We are saddened by the loss of lives brought by yesterday’s night explosions in Quiapo. We likewise wish for the immediate recovery of those who were wounded,” Abella said.
The official also encouraged the Filipinos to refrain from forwarding news from unverified sources to avoid “undue alarm” and “panic.”
According to National Capital Region Police Office director Oscar Albayalde, the first explosion occurred at a law office on Gunao St., while the second explosion happened at Norzagaray and Elizondo Streets at around 8:30 p.m.
Albayde suggested that the bombings were not terrorist-related.
Last April 28, an improvised explosive device also went off along Quezon Boulevard in Quiapo. Fourteen people were wounded in the blast allegedly caused by a gang war./PN
