Andi Eigenmann is all praises for former partner Jake Ejercito for being a good father to their daughter Ellie, while admitting that they are now at that “extremely difficult” level of parenting.
During an interview with Karen Davila, which is posted on her YouTube channel, Eigenmann opened up about her island life in Siargao, as well as her thoughts about motherhood and of losing her parents.
The former actress said she is grateful to have Jake Ejercito as co-parent to their daughter Ellie, even though their relationship is not always flaunted on social media.
“We have a really good co-parenting relationship, I would say. And I’m so grateful to have him as my partner in raising Ellie, but we’re at the extreme difficult level. We have a teenager; Ellie is turning 15 this year and she’s going on to Grade 9. So we’re being faced with more difficult challenges,” she said.
While she did not state what these challenges are, Eigenmann mused that this period of raising a teenager made it more important for them to have a harmonious relationship.
“I feel like us really getting along and seeing eye-to-eye is more inevitable at this stage more than ever,” she said.
When asked how they have come to be in good terms following their breakup and falling out, Eigenmann said it was easy as they were on the same page about providing Ellie with stability in terms of parenting.
“Sadly we didn’t end up together but it doesn’t mean that the willingness to want to be that kind of parent to Ellie is still there. So we support each other even if we don’t talk about it,” she said.
Eigenmann and Ejercito were in an on-off relationship for four years before officially breaking up in September 2014, or just two years after their daughter was born in November 2011.
She is now married to Philmar Alipayo, an international surfing champion and a native of Siargao. (Evangeline Valderrama © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
