ILOILO City – Another suspected member of the Prevendido drug group was arrested in Barangay Santo Niño Norte, Arevalo district.
Police said they have been targeting the 40-year-old resident Rhodalyn Bayona since last year.
A total of 29 sachets of shabu were seized from her, according to Senior Inspector Jose Val Ladublan, Arevalo police chief.
“We believe she took over the trade from her husband, who was also arrested in an antidrug operation last year,” Ladublan said.
Bayona was classified a “high-value target Level 1.”
She sold a plastic pack of shabu to an undercover police officer for P1,200 around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 18.
The suspect yielded 28 more sachets of similar substance valued at P30,000 when frisked, police said.
Joint operatives from the Arevalo police station and the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) staged the operation.
Bayona’s husband, the 45-year-old Cornelio, was detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in Barangay Ungka, Jaro.
Cornelio was arrested on June 4 last year in Mandurriao after selling a sachet of shabu for P900 to a poseur buyer, police said. Aside from the drug offense, he was also charged with illegal possession of firearm.
Four more sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia, a .45 pistol replica, a .38 revolver, and ammunition for such guns were seized from him at the time.
Further recovered from him were a closed-circuit television camera and monitor, a laptop computer, and a tablet computer.
Tuesday last week, a suspected Prevendido drug group member – the 22-year-old Joemar Mendoza of Barangay San Nicolas, La Paz – was arrested in a police operation in Barangay Q. Abeto, Mandurriao.
An RDEU operative was able to buy from Mendoza a sachet of shabu for P1,000 and recovered 127 more valued at P150,000.
The RDEU placed Mendoza under surveillance after learning that the suspect had been released from the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo just this Aug. 1.
Mendoza was arrested last year in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao. He was charged with visiting a drug den.
But the suspect denied owning the shabu recovered from him. He claimed the sachets were “planted.”/PN
