ANTIQUE – The Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) has confiscated over P300,000 worth of assorted firecrackers being sold illegally, as well as an abandoned boga (homemade cannon) in two municipalities.
Major Mona Guia Meñez, officer-in-charge of the provincial Police Community Affairs and Development Unit, said on January 2 that police personnel from Hamtic confiscated assorted firecrackers being sold illegally by retailers without a special business permit.
“There were also four boga that were recovered by the police in San Jose de Buenavista on Dec. 28,” she said.
The San Jose Municipal Police Station recovered the four improvised cannons after they received a report that minors were playing with them.
The minors abandoned the cannons and fled as police approached.
Meñez said they are now waiting for the Police Regional Office 6’s for instructions on whether the mass destruction of the confiscated firecrackers will be held at the regional headquarters in Iloilo City or at the APPO.
Meanwhile, Meñez said there had been no indiscriminate firing of guns from police personnel nor the community during Christmas and New Year’s Eve in the province.
“We had been reminding the Antique police personnel about the one-strike policy of our Philippine National Police chief, and they were compliant with it,” she said. (PNA)
