NEGROS Occidental – A 20-year-old woman who was reported missing on December 31, 2025 was found dead in a river in Purok Paghidaet, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City on January 1.
According to the Kabankalan City Police Station, the body of alias “Lina,” a resident of the city’s Purok Buslogan, Barangay Camingawan, was discovered floating at around 5 p.m.
The victim was rushed to the Lorezo D. Zayco District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The victim’s mother, alias “Elena,” told the police that her daughter left their house at around 2 p.m. on December 31 to bring food to her grandmother’s residence. She, however, failed to return home. The family conducted a search on that day but was unsuccessful in locating her.
Elena said that Lina usually crossed the river by bamboo raft to go to her grandmother’s place.
Kabankalan City police said the victim’s family believes she accidentally fell into the river and drowned.
As of this writing, the victim’s remains were brought to a local funeral parlor for post-mortem examination./PN
