SAN JOSE, Antique – The Antique Provincial Tripartite Industrial Peace Council tackled concerns of workers and employers in the province during a meeting held at Sumakwel Hall in the new provincial capitol in this capital town.

Management (employers) and labor (workers) sectors were represented during the council meeting.

The representatives were from various business establishments, academic institutions, private groups, national government agencies, and the Public Employment Service Office.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provincial director Lorraine Villegas, chairwoman of the council, acknowledged the positive response of establishments to the Labor department’s initiatives promoting safety and health of workers.

Villegas discussed DOLE’s Department Order No. 178 series of 2017, or the Safety and Health Measures for Workers who by the Nature of their Work have to Stand at Work.

The order addresses the health hazards brought by wearing of high-heeled shoes, standing for long periods, and frequent walking at work, which may cause strain on the lower limbs, aching muscles, hazardous pressure on the hip, knee and ankle joints, and sore feet.

The management sector said it will continue to comply with the safety and health standards that DOLE has set.

Moreover, the council agreed to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission before the year ends.

Villegas also reminded employers from the private sector to follow the minimum wage order.

She encouraged all the sectors to preserve industrial peace in the province.

The council will also conduct a gift-giving activity for the sugar migratory workers in northern Antique. (PIA/PN)
