SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial government earned P14 million from the extraction tax of quarry permittees collected from January to July 6 this year.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao on Monday said the income is higher compared to those in the previous years.
Cadiao attributed the high collection to the provincial government’s campaign urging quarry permittees to religiously remit their dues to the province.
“I appealed to the barangay officials to be responsible because corruption starts from the barangay,” she added.
Currently, there are 75 quarry permittees in Antique. They are obliged to pay an extraction tax worth P25 per cubic meter to the provincial government.
Of the amount, 30 percent each goes to the provincial and municipal government units while the remaining 40 percent, to the barangay.
Aside from the extraction tax, the permittees also pay other fees such as environmental fee, ore transport permit fee and application fee.
These fees amounted to P773,842.48 during the period.
In 2013, Antique generated P3.076 million from the extraction tax, P3.763 million in 2014, P4.48 million in 2015, and P7.277 million in 2016. (With PNA/PN)
