SAN JOSE, Antique – Fisherfolk-beneficiaries in the province have been advised to coordinate with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) to receive their fiberglass boats.

OPA senior aquaculturist Alletth Gayatin said Friday that only 200 of the 900 fiberglass boats for identified marginalized fisherfolk in Antique have been delivered to their recipients.

“If the fisherfolk beneficiaries could take the initiative to get their boats at the provincial government property in Barangay Badiang, San Jose de Buenavista, the better,” Gayatin said.

She added the Provincial Engineering Office already delivered 119 fiberglass boats to marginalized fishermen in the municipality of Pandan on June 17 to 21.

“Many boats still have to be transported so fisherfolk-beneficiaries could use them for their livelihood,” said Gayatin.

Under its FB Pagbabago program, BFAR is giving away 900 fiberglass boats with engines to fisherfolk in the province.

Each boat that costs P50,000 to P55,000 will be shared by two fishermen, a scheme to make sure that the boat will be properly used and not sold by the beneficiaries. (With a report from PNA/PN)
