ILOILO City – Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao of Antique province is encouraging more Antiqueños to engage in dairy goat raising as it will help them gain more income and reduce malnutrition among children.
Cadiao added that the provincial government will help develop the goat population in the province.
“We have an existing demo-farm on goat at the municipality of San Remegio wherein existing stocks are being raised for milk and meat purposes,” Cadiao said.
Antique has the third highest population of goats in Western Visayas.
Cadiao furthermore challenged the Antique Goat Raisers Association to increase their stocks.
“How can we market our goats if there are no stocks to sell or the volume cannot meet the existing demand in the market?” she said.
Department of Agriculture regional technical director Manuel O. Olanday is looking forward to see a resilient goat raisers’ association that can manage their market, withstand climate problems and foresee opportunities brought about by the Asean integration./PN
