Antique needs more rehab center guards

SAN JOSE, Antique – Ten additional jail guards are needed to provide maximum security for 211 inmates at the Rehabilitation Center of the province.

“Currently, we only have 23 personnel who are being augmented by job orders,” said Antique Provincial Jail (AJP) warden Eduardo Ebon on Tuesday.

Ebon said the number of jail guards is not enough to secure the jail premises.

He noted a request to fill up the 10 positions that were left vacant due to the retirement of jail guards was already sent to the provincial government.

“Three inmates attempted to bolt jail some two weeks ago but were discovered by prison guards just in time to thwart their plan,” Ebon said.

Aside from the additional jail guards, the AJP warden also wants an increase in the daily subsistence allowance of inmates from the current P45 to P50 each.

Ebon said they also adopt security measures during the transport of inmates by putting handcuffs with two jail guards as escort.

“The new vehicle purchased by the province helps transporting inmates during court hearings. In the past, inmates were transported to the Hall of Justice using tricycles, which is a security risk,” he added. (With a report from PNA/PN)
