SAN JOSE, Antique – A total of 10 former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) received livelihood assistance during the People’s Day at the provincial capitol here.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao led on March the distribution of cash aid worth P10,000 each.
She said the assistance will provide alternative means of income for the OFWs so that they will not go back to work abroad.
“The livelihood assistance is intended for the OFWs to find a source of income right in their own municipalities,” Cadiao added.
Apart from the OFWs, sugar migrant Trinidad Mabalo of Barangay Botbot of the Municipality of Hamtic also received financial assistance, said Randy Ardeño, in-charge of the Sacada Desk of the provincial government.
“The governor gave her P5,000 as her personal assistance to the sugar migrant,” Ardeño said.
Mabalo said before she used to work in the sugar fields and selling food items but an accident rendered her to walk with a limp.
“My right foot was amputated because of a vehicular accident in 1998,” she said.
She said with the money, she will start a sari-sari store in their home. (With a report from PNA/PN)
