Antique to host WVRAA Meet 2025

ANTIQUE – This province will host next year’s Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet.

The WVRAA banner was formally turned over to Antique on Tuesday, May 7, during the closing ceremony of the 2024 WVRAA Meet hosted by Negros Occidental, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

On behalf of Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Antique Provincial Tourism Officer JC Cadiao Perlas received the banner from Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Department of Education (DepEd) 6 director Dr. Ramir Uytico.

Gov. Cadiao, in a Facebook post yesterday, expressed delight over the selection of Antique as the next host of the regional sports meet.

This year’s WVRAA Meet, from May 2 to 7, saw a total of 5,695 delegates, comprised of athletes, chaperones, coaches, trainers, and other personnel.

The delegates’ breakdown per province included 847 from Aklan, 871 from Antique, 972 from Capiz, 561 from Guimaras, 837 from Iloilo, and 903 from Negros Occidental.

There were also a total of 703 technical working groups members, officiating and non-officiating officials and committee heads from DepEd-6.

Iloilo Province was declared overall champion anew in all categories: regular events for elementary and secondary levels, paragames, and demonstration sports.

Antique, meanwhile, bagged three gold, nine silver and 19 bronze medals for elementary level; 11 gold, seven silver and 31 bronze medals for secondary level; one gold and two silver medals for paragames; and two gold, one silver and eight bronze medals for demo sports./PN
