MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) denied there is a brewing destabilization plot among its ranks against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., as alleged by former senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
According to PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo, the intelligence unit of the PNP had not monitored any high-ranking police officials recruiting personnel to join the plot to unseat the Chief Executive.
“First, we do not know where former senator Antonio Trillanes IV sourced his remarks but on the part of the PNP, we spoke with the chief PNP (Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil) regarding that issue earlier,” Fajardo said.
“Even our intelligence units here in the PNP, we have not monitored any police officer involved in this so-called destabilization plot, and we have not monitored any destabilization plot for that matter,” she added.
“Ang pakiusap natin kay kagalang-galang na dating senator Trillanes, please spare the PNP dito sa mga issue na ito at naka-focus tayo sa pagtupad ng ating mandato,” Fajardo further said.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Trillanes said active senior members of the PNP are allegedly involved in former President Rodrigo Duterte’s ouster plot against President Marcos.
The former senator added some retired officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are also attempting to recruit active soldiers in the ouster plot of the Chief Executive.
The former senator further said there is a sense of urgency for Duterte to unseat Marcos as he claimed that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to issue an arrest warrant against him by June or July.
Department Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., for his part, also said there is no credible ouster plot against the Chief Executive.
“Solid po ang aming suporta at walang dapat ikabahala ang ating Pangulo,” Abalos said in an interview with Radyo 630 on Wednesday morning.
“Walang credible threat as of now. Talagang wala po ito. In fact, maski ako nagulat din sa pahayag na ito. Kung meron man, ito’y hindi papatulan,” he added./PN
