Antique towns bag regional awards

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Municipalities of San Jose, Sibalom and Patnongon bagged awards in different categories during the 2nd Regional Development Council 6 Recognition Ceremony of Competitive Local Government Units in Iloilo City recently.

The town of San Jose de Buenavista, the province’ capital ranked 1st for Efficiency and Most Improved categories and declared 3rd over-all for 1st  and 2nd Class Municipalities in Region 6. In behalf of Mayor Elmer Untaran, Engr. Jose Magbanua, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator received the award.

Provincial Director Mercedes Young of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) also received the Award for the Municipal Government of Sibalom as 3rd Most Improved among the 1st and 2nd Class municipalities.

The Municipal Government of Patnongon likewise Ranked 3rd on Economic Dynamism among 3rd to 6th Class Municipalities.

On the other hand, Antique’s products were also featured during the Panubli-on Fair, a regional trade fair facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Wide array of local products were displayed at SM Activity Center in Iloilo, said Information officer Lynna Joy Cardinal of DTI.

Among them are patadyong, local delicacies, mats made of buri and bariw, souvenir and a lot more carefully crafted by local entrepreneurs.

A weavers group, United Group of Weavers at Dapdap (UGWAD) in the town of Anini-y conducted a demonstration on mat weaving during the event.

DTI thanked the local micro small and medium enterprises for joining the event which could eventually help boost the marketing of their products. (PIA/PN)
