SAN JOSE, Antique – The Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) has confiscated 13 firearms under its “Oplan Katok” campaign.
Under Oplan Katok, police personnel visit houses of those with expired gun licenses and with suspected loose firearms around the province.
“The firearms had already expired licenses and were not renewed by the civilian gun owners,” said APPO deputy director for operations Superintendent Norby Escobar on Tuesday.
Escobar stressed that the campaign aims to deter the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in Antique, especially this election period.
He added that loose firearms might be used to harass voters.
The APPO started conducting Oplan Katok since April 14, Escobar said.
On the other hand, APPO has arrested six persons who violated the election gun ban. Four firearms were confiscated from them.
The apprehensions happened during the conduct of checkpoints and police operations in the towns of Bugasong, San Remigio and Sibalom. (With a report from PNA/PN)
