BACOLOD City – Specific areas have been identified for a potential mobile phone signal shutdown during the MassKara Festival highlights on Oct. 21 and 22.
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has endorsed the Bacolod City Police Office’s (BCPO) request for signal jamming, pending approval from the National Telecommunications Commission, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez told the media.
The request includes a shutdown of cellular service on Oct. 21 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. along the route of the Electric Float Parade Competition and MassKara Elektrika Diva, from the Upper East-Megaworld area to the Bacolod City Government Center.
On Sunday, Oct. 22, from 12 noon to 9 p.m., the areas affected will be from Rizal-Araneta streets to Paglaum Sports Complex, the venue for the MassKara street dance and arena competition.
Colonel Noel Alinio, director of BCPO, said they sent an endorsement letter to the PRO-6 as early as Oct. 2.
Yesterday, Oct. 18, Benitez said that while he awaits confirmation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s attendance, First Lady Liza has confirmed her visit for Oct. 22.
Several senators are also expected in the city during the highlights./PN
