ILOILO City – The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) based in Jamindan, Capiz gets a new commander general today. Major General Jon Aying is retiring.
The new 3ID head – in an acting capacity – is Brigadier General Dinoh Dolina, assistant division commander of the 3ID and former chief of the Army’s Office of the Legislative Affairs, General Headquarters.
“President (Rodrigo Duterte) is yet to sign the documents on Dolina’s new designation. Once these are signed, he will serve on full capacity as new commander of the division,” said Aying.
The turnover of command today is at Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz.
Philippine Army commander Lieutenant General Rolando Bautista will lead the turnover ceremony.
Aying was assigned to the 3ID in Nov. 24, 2016. He is retiring from military service this Dec. 31.
A testimonial and retirement ceremony for Aying will be held today, too.
“We did very good in operations. Several encounters led to the neutralization of a number of extremist terrorists,” said Aying.
The 3ID also helped in the antidrug campaign and disaster relief efforts.
“Nabuo rin natin ‘yung peace and security resiliency infrastructure kaya nagkaroon tayo ng regional and provincial interagency task forces,” said Aying.
The Army general expressed confidence of meeting their target of crushing the insurgency in Panay Island by the end of 2018.
“Pagsinabi nating crush, by 2018 or at the end of 2018, we would have already achieved a very good level of (insurgency) suppression. Hindi na nila magawa ‘yung mga pag-raid katulad sa Maasin or mang-ambush sila na very fatal,” said Aying.
The rebel movement has considerably weakened, he stressed.
“During the 1970s and 1980s they had the capacity to annihilate. Pag nag-ambush sila or nag-raid they executed perfectly. Nakukuha nila daming baril ng sundalo at marami napapatay. This time they cannot do that,” said Aying./PN
