BACOLOD City – The Association of Southeast Nations (Asean) 2017 National Organizing Council (NOC) recently conducted a two-day ocular inspection from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 in Bacolod City.
In October, the Asean 2017 NOC announced that it has chosen Bacolod City as one of the meeting sites for the Philippine hosting of the Senior Officials Meeting and the 15th Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information.
Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., director-general for operations of the Asean 2017 NOC, led the 45-member team. They arrived in Bacolod straight from their ocular inspection in Iloilo City.
The NOC inspected SMX Convention Center, Planta Centro Bacolod Hotel and Residences, L’Fisher Hotel, Business Inn, and Circle Inn.
“Bacolod City has a critical role in this national hosting,” Paynor said.
For his part, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that the city is “thrilled and honored to host this very significant meet especially in the light of the Asean integration program which can affect our daily lives.”
“We can no longer think of ourselves as simply a Philippine city, we must now think of Bacolod as a city of Southeast Asia and align our goals with this,” Leonardia stressed.
The integration, called Asean Community 2015, groups the economies of member-states Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. (PIA)
