MANILA – “The truth will set you free.”
Assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office Margaux “Mocha” Uson urged Sen. Leila de Lima, who is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame on drug-related charges, to admit her guilt.
“We cannot escape the consequences of our actions at ang tunay na kapayapaan at kalayaan ay ‘yung meron kang peace of mind,”said Uson, who was at the Senate on Wednesday to support Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano’s confirmation as the Department of Foreign Affairs chief.
The risqué dancer turned blogger also denied being a “blind supporter” of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Hindi po ako blind follower ni PRRD,” said the former board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board responding to de Lima’s statement on her new appointment.
On Tuesday, de Lima congratulated and wished Uson luck on her new appointment.
The former Justice secretary appealed to the Filipinos “not to slut-shame her, to use her past career, relationships or sexual history to malign her, to subject her to misogynistic attacks, or any other form of ad hominem attacks…”
She also hoped the official would promote “responsibly gathered and vetted facts and news” and speak the truth.
“I implore her to be more circumspect about her choice of words and way of saying them. I do not mean that she ought to use sophisticated words. In fact, I do encourage her to speak plainly. Plain but cleanly. Be aware that our children are listening to us. Our future generations are taking their cue from us on how to express and carry themselves.” de Lima said./PN
