MANILA – UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball runner-up Ateneo Lady Eagles is set to take on Premier V-League squad BanKo-Perlas Lady Spikers in an exhibition game on Aug. 20 in Iloilo City.

Ilonggo sportsman Ruding Villaruz said the game will be part of the city’s 80th Charter Day celebration. The venue of the match will be announced soon.

“We are glad that Ateneo Lady Eagles agreed to play an exhibition match [in Iloilo City],” Villaruz told Panay News. “This is a rare opportunity for the Ilonggos to see Lady Eagles and Lady Spikers play live.”

“Unlike other universities, Ateneo sent us a letter confirming [their participation] in the exhibition game. So we are sure that this already good to go, and we a just finding a venue,” he added.

Aside from the exhibition game, Lady Eagles is also set to hold a volleyball clinic and a volleyball tryout to score for possible additions to their team, Villaruz said.

“One good thing na maidudulot ng event na ito is iyong tryout. Who knows? Baka may ma-recruit sila dito,” said Villaruz.
“I have invited some of the players from Biron Cup to join the tryout, and this could be the way for them to be discovered and play in Manila,” he added.

The Lady Eagles squad comprises Jhoanna Maraguinot, Bea de Leon, Madeleine Madayag, Kat Tolentino, Pauline Gaston, Jennelle Lo, Julianne Samonte, Bettina Abella, Ana Gopico, Deanna Wong, and Negrenses Kassandra and Candice Gequillana.
