Bacolod 45-day traffic trial starts next week

BACOLOD City – To further help ease road congestion, a 45-day traffic experiment will began here next week.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, said the experimental traffic rerouting scheme will start on Aug. 26 within the parking area of eastbound public utility jeepneys (PUJs) along Hilado Street, fronting the Burgos Market in Galo Street.

According to Pineda, the traffic experiment was approved by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office in a meeting with affected PUJ drivers and operators.

“PUJs plying the routes of Burgos Market-Granada; Burgos Market-Alangilan; and Burgos Market-San Dionisio vice versa starting Monday will be in Daniel-Ramos Street, which is also fronting the Burgos Market,” Pineda explained.

He also said that they will schedule a meeting with Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairman of the city council’s Committee on Transportation.

“If the experiment will be effective, there will be an amendment in the existing ordinance therein,” Pineda said.

He added the initiative was in compliance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to clear all public roads of obstructions./PN
