BACOLOD City – This capital city’s crime volume in August decreased 20 percent, according to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
The BCPO recorded 232 crimes last month, 58 cases lower compared to 290 in the same period last year.
The BCPO released the data on Thursday with its public information officer Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana saying that the sustained police operations and increased public awareness campaign were behind the crime decrease.
Index crimes – or those committed against persons and property – dropped 34.41 percent from 93 in August 2017 to 61 in August 2018.
These crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, car theft, and motornapping.
Non-index crimes – which are violations of special laws – declined 13.20 percent from 197 in August 2017 to 171 in Aug. 2018.
Police-initiated operations increased 16.44 percent last month, from 73 in August last year to 85 this year.
August’s crime data follows the downward trend of crimes in Bacolod since January.
In July, the total crime volume went down 18.85 percent. In first half of 2018, the it dropped 20.83 percent.
