BACOLOD City – The bidding for the city government’s solar power generation system in 10 barangays is now ongoing.
These barangays are Cabug, Estefania, Felisa, Handumanan, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Tangub, and 16.
Engr. Loben Ceballos, officer-in-charge (OIC) of the City Engineer’s Office, said they had identified a total of 16 barangays that have the biggest electricity consumption, and the city government wants to lessen their monthly electricity through the use of solar power.
Ceballos added that at present, solar panel installation is already ongoing in Barangay Alijis and the installation in the aforementioned 10 barangays will follow after a successful bidding.
This solar power project has a proposed budget of P100 million, funded under the P4.4 billion loan window of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the installation of the 400-kilowatt (KW) capacity solar power system on the rooftop of the Bacolod City Government Center began in July this year.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez at that time said this would reduce the city’s power bills by half and he added that the installation of solar panels in 16 barangays will follow.
Ceballos said the P25-million solar power generation system at the BCGC is expected to be operational by next month./PN
