Bacolod begins parking experiment on Lacson St.

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Council (BTAC) begins today a 45-day motor vehicle parking experiment along the entire stretch of Lacson Street.

Through Resolution No. 12, series of 2024, BTAC directed the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to spearhead the parking experiment from the boundary of Talisay City, Negros Occidental on the north and the intersection of Lacson Street extension corner Alijis-Mansilingan Street on the south.

During the duration of the experiment, vehicles are allowed to park along appropriate spaces of the roadside of Lacson Street from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. every Monday to Friday and from 7 p.m. of Friday running through the entire Saturday and Sunday, and terminating at 5 a.m. of Monday.

This parking experiment is in response to the request of the business sector.

Frank Carbon, chief executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), earlier said that they submitted a proposal to Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to improve business sales along Lacson Street.

“This is our answer to very low sales in Bacolod. Hopefully, this move of the city and the business sector would spur economic activities and create more jobs,” Carbon said

He also believed that the parking experiment would not affect the traffic situation in the area.

The experiment’s primary aim is to find a balance between maintaining smooth traffic flow on Lacson Street and providing business owners with the opportunity for their customers to park near their establishments.

Once proven effective, the Sangguniang Panlungsod may consider the approval of this motor vehicle parking experiment through a formal ordinance./PN
